Emerging Stronger:
Resilience, Community, and Lifesaving Impact

Message from the CEO and Chair

As the Chair of the Board and CEO of St. John Ambulance BC and Yukon, we are thrilled to reflect on an exceptional year that has reaffirmed our commitment to being the helpers our communities rely on. With your unwavering support and dedication, we have emerged stronger in 2022.

First and foremost, we want to express our deepest appreciation to our remarkable students. Your commitment to learning and improving your first aid skills has been instrumental in our success. Together, we trained 51,551 students in first aid, marking an impressive 9% increase from the previous year. Your eagerness to enhance your knowledge and readiness to respond to emergencies has made a profound difference in our communities.

We also want to extend our sincere gratitude to the employers who understand the importance of first aid training. Your support in enabling your employees to acquire these critical skills not only benefits individuals but also contributes to building safer environments for everyone.

To our dedicated instructors, we want to express heartfelt appreciation for your expertise and commitment. Your passion for teaching and mentoring has prepared individuals to respond effectively in emergencies. Countless lives have been impacted, and communities have become safer through your guidance.

We must recognize the exceptional efforts of our hardworking employees who have been the driving force behind our success. Your dedication, adaptability, and unswerving commitment to our purpose have made it possible for us to achieve strong results and create a lasting impact.

Your support, dedication, and belief in our mission have propelled us forward

Our cohesive and committed Board has provided great leadership support to ensure we continue our drive to greater success.  We’ve underpinned the society with a stronger financial position, made advancements in our structure and our governance and set the foundation for even greater impact in the years to come. Thank you to all Board members for your support.

Last but certainly not least, our volunteers, the backbone of our organization, deserve our profound gratitude. Your selfless contributions of time and expertise have been nothing short of extraordinary. In 2022, our volunteers dedicated 71,861 hours, an outstanding increase of over 66% from the previous year. Your commitment to serving others embodies the true spirit of St. John Ambulance.

As a profit-for-purpose organization, we recognize that our achievements in 2022 would not have been possible without the collective efforts of all our stakeholders. Your support, dedication, and belief in our mission have propelled us forward, enabling us to emerge stronger to make a lasting difference in the lives of those we serve.  With your contributions, we are a stronger SJA BCY for our students, a stronger team of staff and volunteers, and ever more powerful contributions by our dedicated volunteers.

Looking ahead, we remain steadfast in our commitment to empowering safer communities. We will continue to provide high-quality training, foster collaboration, and advocate for the importance of first aid skills.

Together, let us build a safer, more resilient society where individuals are prepared to respond to emergencies, while creating a positive impact and empowering others to improve health, safety, and quality of life.
